Easter is quickly approaching and if your senior loved one is choosing to age in place you will want to head over to make sure they are not alone on this glorious holiday. Easter is a religious holiday but many non-religious people choose to celebrate this as the start of spring and it can be fun for the entire family. Here are some ways you can choose to celebrate Easter with your elderly parents.
Attend Church
If you and your senior loved one are religious, many churches will be hosting fun events. It is crucial for your loved one to remain active in the community. Encourage home care to drive them to an easter morning service or a sunrise service that celebrates this beautiful day. This is the time to encourage your loved one to connect with friends, family, and the entire community, and church is a great way to do that.
Go to a Community Event
Not all seniors are religious, and that’s okay. The beautiful thing about Easter is that it brings everyone together to celebrate regardless of their beliefs. This is when spring truly starts to bloom and there will be tons of events around the local community. Home care can help find your loved one a ride to get to an event where there may be get-togethers, fun treats, easter egg hunts for kids, and much more. Going to something at a local park or community center is a fun way to get out of the house and an amazing way to celebrate Easter.
Paint Easter Eggs
If you have small kids, it’s time to take them to your parent’s house to do fun projects. One of the many things that kids and adults love to do is hard-boiled eggs and dye them. Some people will even leave them uncooked and poke holes in the bottom and top of the egg to blow the yolk out and paint them instead. This is a fun way to enjoy your time together and will keep both kids busy for several hours. If you paint easter eggs instead of dying hard-boiled eggs you will also have something from your mom and dad to keep for several years. This is a fun way to make memories everyone will cherish.
Do an Easter Egg Hunt
This is another activity that is fun for seniors to watch, especially young kids. Ask your senior mom or dad if they would be willing to stuff easter eggs (plastic) with toys, candies, or even quarters! Then find places to hide them around and let your kids go and find those eggs! This is a tradition many families enjoy and love. It can be a way to entertain the whole family and really embrace the Easter theme.
Do a Picnic in the Park
Depending on the area you are in, Easter brings nice weather. It’s time to go to your local park and eat lunch with your senior loved one. Let the kids play on the playground and take your senior on a leisurely stroll. This may not seem like anything important but by just spending time with your loved one you are embracing Easter.
